  • Easiest to use custom fit pattern drafting software you can find anywhere.

  • More patterns than any other source of patterns in the world.

  • More standard sizes AND more options for custom sizing than any other source of patterns.

  • More options and adjustments than any other patterns can provide.

  • More options for purchasing patterns, too. Whether you want one, five, ten, a hundred, or unlimited access to the entire catalog, MPD has a purchase plan that is right for you!

MPD Standard vs Pro

My Pattern Designer Standard is the biggest pattern catalog you've ever seen. Similar to the designer's tools that have been used for over a year to develop new patterns for Livingsoft's Dress Shop Family products, MPD permits you to make the design choices. MPD allows the designer to mix and match just about any feature from any pattern that the drafting engine can produce. We have rewritten these tools to let you make those choices. YOU can choose which features to mix. YOU choose which options to combine. YOU make all the design decisions and find that unique mix that is just what you want, not what someone else chose for you.

More

My Pattern Designer Pro has the same huge catalog of patterns, with all the same options, features, and adjustments that MPD Standard has.

MPD Pro adds more tools, more adjustments, more options, more features, and more detailed measurements to what MPD Standard comes with. And, it's just as easy to use and just as fast to render your patterns and get them printed.

MPD Pro is a pattern designer's dream tool. And, for all of those that don't think you are a designer, MPD Pro can make you one. Just playing with the settings will create new, original patterns that are more exciting than anything you had imagined before you began playing. Or, take some fashion photo that you saw somewhere else and see if you can make it with MPD Pro. You'll be amazed at how much it can do and how quick and easy it is to get something totally original that you just love.  And, since it is drafted to your measurements, using MPD's customized fit system, you'll always know that what you create is going to fit better than anything you'll ever find in a store.

MPD Fit Test Experiment from Selma

"Today was the monthly meeting of the users group that I belong to.  Since I had the measurements of three of the ladies who are long time DS (Dress Shop) users on my computer I decided to make up MPD (My Pattern Designer) fit test pants for each of them.  I adjusted the crotch measurements to meet the new criteria and that was all of the changes that I made.  At the meeting I had each try on her MPD pants with out telling her in advance what she was  trying on.  I didn't want them to have a preconceived idea of how they would fit. The fit was better than good and only needed a little tweaking with the conformed floor to waist back measurement to be excellent.  I then let them look at 1/4 scale printouts so they could see what they were trying on.

It was a good example of 'try it you'll like it'."

Q & A

Q. How is MPD Different from Dress Shop?

A. My Pattern Designer takes a completely new approach to pattern drafting. Dress Shop has individual patterns, each with custom code to draft it. MPD drafts patterns according to the features of the pattern, so you can mix and match many more choices. Your selections develop the pattern number and then allow you many option choices as to neckline style, depth, width, and fit ease, as well as sleeve type, length and so on.  This versatility allows you many more design choices than ever.

In addition to the drafting approaches, dramatic measurement and fit differences exist between Dress Shop and My Pattern Designer.

1. We have a new measurement chart with 62 entries in the advanced MPD Pro version. (You may still import your chart from Dress Shop, and MPD will adjust the chart to the new format.) We made this change both to simplify the learning curve and to make it easier to develop a good-fitting armhole and matching sleeve. There is now a back armhole depth measurement to which you can accurately assign a depth.  See http://www.mypatterndesigner.com/MPD/MPDdifferences1.htm for more information.

2. The new measurement chart reflects the NEW pant draft! We use the slim fit pant as the basis for ALL MPD pants. This is a very exciting change as the shape of not just the legs but the entire crotch is brand new.  This development makes it easier to “balance” the crotch to develop the new shape, which has been modernized to a cross between the European and American versions. The body depth measurement from Dress Shop is gone, and in its place the crotch lengths, extensions, and curve breaks are all in one place on the chart. Our testers claim the best pant fit they have ever had! See http://www.mypatterndesigner.com/MPD/MPDdifferences2.htm for more information.

3. Starting with a standard measurement or a Measurement Wizard chart is now much easier. The standard measurement charts for adult women have all been refined. You can select a short, average, or tall body type as well as body shape. The Wizard was also enhanced.

Download the demo and run through the charts to see the changes for yourself. Click the help button for assistance. There are many more articles that will walk you through the process step by step.  See http://www.mypatterndesigner.com/ and click on the Downloads page for the full program.
